Dear Anne Begg MP,

I am writing to ask you to support early day motion 1088 calling for a full investigation into the government's handling of the war against Iraq. As someone who voted against the invasion I would hope that you would consider supporting this motion. The government's position that this has already been fully investigated is not credible as I'm sure you're aware. Narrow investigations into specific aspects of the war have been conducted but there has been no wide ranging investigation of the type which is sorely needed.

This week has seen the publication of a memo recording the discussion between the Prime Minister and President Bush on 31st January 2003. This has again raised serious questions as to the PMs handling of this matter.

The situation in Iraq today is grim. Earlier this month, the US military announced that insurgent attacks had increased by almost 30% in 2005. USAID said that the country was suffering from "social breakdown" in which criminals have "almost free rein" and that there was a growing "internecine conflict" between the various groups. The United Iraqi Alliance is, as I'm sure you are aware, the dominant political force in the new Iraq. This is a fundamentalist Islamist party and many of it's members have strong ties to the Iranian government and revolutionary guard. Did we really fight a war to install such a government?

It is increasingly clear that there are many serious concerns about the government's handling of the Iraq war. I would strongly urge you to support the EDM. I believe this goes beyond party politics. At a time when the Iranian government may be considering the manufacture of nuclear weapons, it is essential that efforts are made to restore public confidence in the governance of this country. As I am sure you are aware, all MPs have a duty to act in the best interests of this country.

I look forward to your response.

Yours sincerely

Garry Smith

Click. S'funny. Go on.

Footnote: there is absolutely nothing else on this blog of any interest whatsoever. The strange thing is that me writing this means you'll probably have an urge to look for yourself. Don't bother. It'll be a complete waste of time. Honestly.
